по английскому языку для 8-х классов

New Year around the world”

Цели и задачи:


  • обобщение изученного материала по теме «Новый год в разных странах»;

  • активизация лексических навыков по данной теме;

  • тренировка навыков аудирования;

  • развитие умения и навыков чтения вслух и про себя.


  • развитие воображения;

  • развитие умения логически мыслить;

  • развитие умения работать в больших и малых группах.


  • воспитание стремления быть добрыми и вежливыми в общении, воспитывать уважительное отношение друг к другу;

  • воспитание интереса к культуре и традициям страны изучаемого языка.

Оборудование: магнитофон, карточки с текстами “Merry Christmas ”; диск (“Sing and Learn ENGLISH ” - 28 американских и английских народных песенок. / Г Минина, А Васильев. – Издательство «Медиахаус», 2001) с записью песен “Jingle , Bells ”, “I wish I were a Snowman ”, “We wish you a Merry Christmas ”; 3 набора предложений (стихотворение, разрезанное по строкам); задание на карточках для конкурсов 3, 5, 10, листы бумаги, фломастеры.

Ход мероприятия

T: Good morning, dear boys and girls! I am glad to see you!

Say: “Hello!”

And clap your hands!

Don’t say: “No!”

And, please, say: “Yes!”

T: How are you?

Pupils: I am fine, thank you! And you?

T: I’m fine, too. Thank you!

T: Today we shall find out how people celebrate New Year’s Day in different countries. There are three teams in our classroom and we have two members of our jury today. The first team is called …, and its captain is … . The 2nd one is called …, and its captain is …. The 3rd team is called …, and its captain is ….The members of our jury are ….

(Учитель приветствует детей и членов жюри и сообщает о проведении новогоднего марафона. Учащиеся делятся на 3 команды для участия в конкурсах).

T: Let’s start our competition with a song “Jingle, Bells”. Will you stand up and sing the song all together?

(Учитель предлагает учащимся исполнить песню в начале мероприятия).

Dashing through the snow

In one horse open sleigh

O’er the fields we go,

Laughing all the way.

Bells on bobtails ring

Making spirits bright

What fun it is to laugh and sing

A sleighing song tonight!

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one-horse open sleigh! Hey!

A day or two ago

I thought I’d take a ride

And soon Miss Fanny Bright

Was seated by my side

The horse was lean and lank

Misfortune seemed his lot

We got into a drifted bank

And then we got upset

Jingle bells! Jingle bells!

Jingle all the way!

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one-horse open sleigh! Hey!

T: Last night, while we were asleep,

The old year went away.

It can’t come back again because

A new one’s come to stay.

Конкурс 1.

T: Guess the riddles.

  1. I come with cold and snow.

But you like me and know. (winter)

  1. It’s blue by night,

By day it’s white.

It is cold and not dry,

It falls from the sky. (snow)

  1. Higher than a house, higher than a tree-

Oh, what can that be? (sky.)

  1. We celebrate it on the first of January. (New Year)

  2. He always comes at night and brings presents to obedient boys and girls. (Father Frost/Santa Claus.)

  3. We decorate it when it is New Year with garlands, colorful balls and other toys. (New Year Tree)

T: Write as many words as you can on the topic “New Year’s Day”

(Члены каждой команды записывают слова по теме «Новый год»).

Примерные слова:Tree, December, winter, presents, poems, cards, snow, sweets, songs, Father Frost, Santa Claus, snowman.

T: Read the short texts how people celebrate the New Year’s Day in different countries and choose the correct answer.

(Ученики выполняют первое задание: читают текст и выбирают правильный вариант ответа)

  1. In this country New Year’s Eve is a time for entertainment. Many people go to parties and balls. Thousands of people gather in Times Square and watch the “Big Apple” fall. The “Big Apple” isn’t a real apple. At one minute before midnight, it drops slowly from the top of one of the buildings. People count down at the same time as the “Big Apple” drops. When it reaches the bottom, sirens sound, fire-crackers explode, and people shout “Happy New Year!”

(Italy, the USA, Russia)

  1. The celebration of New Year is the most popular annual festival in this country. At midnight the bell rings out 108 times as a reminder of the 108 commandments of Buddha. Every person gets new clothes and takes three days off from work to visit his friends. Each door is decorated with green pines, bamboos, red lobsters, crabs, standing for long life and happiness.

  1. People call New Year’s Day “Hogmanay”. They visit their friends’ houses just after midnight on the New Year’s night. It is believed that to be the first one in a house on New Year’s Day brings good luck. The house will be lucky if the first visitor is a dark tall man. The darker he is the better.

(The USA, Scotland, India)

  1. This country is sometimes called “the upside down world”. It lies in the Southern Hemisphere. During Christmas holidays people often sunbathe on the beach or swim and surf in the ocean. On the 31st of December many people go to the country for the picnic. In January the temperature ranges from 20 to 30 C above zero or higher.

(Egypt, Ireland, Australia)

  1. In this country it can be dangerous to have a walk at night at the end of December. People usually throw the old things from the house through the window: broken cups and plates, old clothes and boots and sometimes different pieces of furniture, believe that on the New Year’s Eve the magician Befaniya comes to the houses through the chimney and put the presents for the children in their stockings or shoes.

  1. New Year’s festivals last for two weeks. People prepare for celebrations by cleaning houses, paying debts and closing shops. The most exciting event is the “Parade of the Lanterns”, headed by a huge dragon which is carried through the streets. As New Year’s gifts, oranges are given as a symbol of good health.

T: Complete the text with the missed words:

Different traditions in different countries.

T: Make up new words using the letters of the word “Congratulations”.

(Учитель привлекает внимание детей к слову “ Congratulations ”, заранее записанному на доске. Учащиеся составляют новые слова, используя буквы данного слова. На выполнение данного задания детям отводится 3 минуты).

Возможные ответы учащихся:

Cat, corn, station, go, can, rain, song, sing, rat, salt, run, onion, tin, grain, sort, grant, no, in, on, lot, not, it.

Конкурс 7 .

T: Now you will listen to the song and write down the missing words on the cards. You will listen to the song twice. Be careful, please.

(Команды получают карточки со словами песни, в которой пропущены некоторые слова. Задание для учащихся: прослушать запись и записать недостающие слова. После проверки данного задания учитель может предложить ученикам исполнить песню

T: On this holiday we usually congratulate our parents, relatives, and our friends. But how we do it? What do we say? Do you know any congratulations in English? You must think and congratulate each other .

(Участники из каждой команды по очереди говорят поздравления).

T: You know a lot of wishes. Link the first part of the wish with another one, please. And read it loudly. Who’s faster?

T: I want you to put the words in their logical order and read the poem.

(Каждая команда получает набор предложений для составления стихотворения. После того как стихотворение будет составлено, его необходимо выразительно прочитать).

Father Frost,

Bring many toys.

For little girls

When Father Frost comes to our house

I would like to peek,

But I know, he’ll never come

Конкурс 11.

T: It’s time for the last task. We like to get congratulations, presents and greeting cards. Have you ever sent New Year Cards? Let’s make them. You may use all poems and congratulations we mentioned today.

(Каждой команде выдаются листы бумаги, карандаши, маркеры. Пока дети делают свои открытки, звучит новогодняя музыка, песни на английском языке. Закончив работу, дети показывают свои открытки и читают друг другу поздравления. Жюри оценивает работы и объявляет результаты конкурса и игры в целом).

T: It’s time to finish our competition. I am happy to have such clever pupils. You know how different countries celebrate New Year’s Day Every year we are looking forward to it. You can sing English songs and recite poems very well. Thank you for your work.
